My parents took a fabulous trip to France a few years ago.  They went as part of a tour group that stayed together and visited areas and locations based on their pre-determined itinerary.  They had a fabulous time.  Their only complaint was that they felt rushed at some of the destinations they were at.  If they would have not been part of the tour group and would have instead used a Car Rental France company to have their own car, they could have spent as much time as they wanted at their destinations.  When you have your own car, you are never tied to time constraints.  You are truly free to go where ever you please, when ever you please.
